What can your school do to reduce food waste?

  1. We as a whole should be more careful with our actions. We should be able to eat a bigger variety of food so not one category suffers more. For instance more people eat their grains but not their vegetables. By eating a larger variety we shorten the waste of one category. Lastly i see many kids throw away three fourths of a sandwich. This upsets me because that piece can go to a starving child. These decisions can be the difference in a little waste to a lot of wasted food.

Food waste is a very large problem that can easily be changed or improved but it is still happening all over the world. In order to reduce food waste our school can do many things. One option would be to create new healthy meals out of the materials we would usually just throw out. Another idea would be to bring the leftover food from lunch could be donated to soup kitchens in order to not waste perfectly good food. There are so many options for what we could do to food waste we just have to take action and use them.

Food waste is becoming a huge topic in the United States. We often eat food and throw out what we don't want. What schools can do is invoke policies where students take home leftovers to reduce food waste. This way, students can finish food when they are hungry or feel like doing so. Food waste is the second most waste seen in landfills which release methane emissions bad for the environment. By cutting down on food waste in schools, we can do our part by helping out the environment.

  5. Our school can do something as simple as having kids sign up for what they want to eat for lunch in the morning, so the cafeteria staff knows how much of something to make/buy for that day, so they don't have too many extras that will just end up being thrown out at the end of the day. Another simple way for our school to reduce food waste is to donate the uneaten, not savable food to a shelter, or another place of that sort, for people in need, at the end of each day. This would in turn benefit more people and maximize the use of already prepared food. An alternative to these ways to reduce food waste in our school is to make food out of normally wasted food products like Kass and Barber did for the world leaders.

  6. Food waste has increasingly become a problem in the United States. One place it is very apparent is in the nations schools. One way we could change this is to allow students to only buy a certain amount of items every time they enter the lunch line. This would greatly reduce how much food they just throw away. Now students would not buy 5 items at a time and only eat 3. If they are only allowed to purchase 3 items, then they would not waste those other 2, and if they are that hungry that they need something else then the students could just go back to the lunch line and buy it. This results in people only buying what they need, not a surplus of food that they'll only throw away.

  7. Food waste has become an issue for the environment and schools can help. At school, a lot of excess food is thrown out between preparing food, leftovers, and kids throwing out what they do not want, which contributes to the over 1.3 billions tons of food waste yearly. There are many ways schools can decrease the amount of food waste. One way is that they can donate any extra food that the kids did not eat. This will reduce food waste and help people in need as well. Another way is that they can make meals with excess food from other meals instead of just throwing it away.

Food waste has been a worsening issue in the U.S. and the world. In many school food waste is also a very serious issue as many students throw away large amounts of food simply because they don't want it. Not only are there kids in the world who are not given sufficient food but students in the school as well. One thing schools could do is collect extra food during lunch to give food to needy kids in the school and where needed around the school. Schools could regulate the amount of foods students are given so that food isn't left over. Another idea would be like the one in the article by collecting discarded food and having it either remade of simply given right back out to students. The issue of food waste is very serious and schools should definitely use these ideas to help the issue.

Food waste in the United States is becoming a bigger problem everyday, but can easily be fixed. It is a major issue because it is hurting the economy and the environment, since the average family throws out $640 each year, and it is a contributor to climate change. The school also throws out a ton of unwanted, and sometimes untouched food. What schools can do to reduce the amount of food wasted is to limit students to a daily meal plan. Students would check off what they want during first period, so the cafeteria can have an idea of how much food to make. All the extra food that students do not eat can go to soup kitchens or any place that can feed those who need it. This will reduce the amount of wasting food our school has at the moment.

  10. Schools contribute immensely to the food waste problem, and there are many ways they can help it. To begin, the food wasted at schools contributes to about 1.3 billion of the food wasted every year. Schools tend to produce this much waste with out even knowing it, by kids throwing out food they don't eat, and food that is thrown out when preparing meals. There are many solutions to this issue, though. One being there can be a restriction on how much food each student can buy in the lunch line every day. This way, instead of a student buying several different things and only eating a select few of them and throwing the rest out, they can save that extra amount of food. If the student is then hungry for more, they can go back into the lunch line. By putting a restriction on the amount of food students buy in the lunch line, it will save a lot of food that is normally thrown away and help the food waste issue.

Food waste is one problem is that many people don't think about, but it is a problem that can be fixed. One thing schools can do to help food waste decrease is to make some of the meals out of food that is normally thrown away. Another way is to serve the right amount of food because if they serve to much food then the extra would just be thrown out. And the last way schools can reduce the amount of food they waste is that if they have any extra food then they can give it to soup kitchens to be given out to the less fortunate so they don't just throw the food away. Food waste is a major problem in this world that can be fixed with some simple solutions.

Schools take an extreme role in wasting the most food annually, but if we stop this it can change extremely. One thing we can do is purchase some of the leftover foods from a restaurant instead of letting them throw it away. Not only will this help end the restaurants food wasting but it will also help the schools and not make us over purchase and over make food that will be wasted later on. Secondly, the school should make every first period have a chart and let the kids fill out if theyre going to want buy lunch that day or not. By doing so we will limit how much food the school will have to make and not over make and wasting the food the kids who bring lunch would eat.

Food waste is becoming a big problem in the United States and one of the biggest culprits are schools. Schools waste a lot of food everyday in ways many people wouldn't even think about. Between leftovers, preparing meals, and just kids throwing their food away, there is a lot of food waste. To solve this problem, schools should save un-eaten food at the end of each day and donate it to a local soup kitchen. That way the food doesn't go to waste and the schools can help feed the needy.

Tons of food is wasted everyday and school's could be one of the solutions. Many people throw out their food if their not hungry or sometime schools make people get fruit for a lunch and some kids dont eat it. Schools could easily encourage students to only get what they want and if they feel full they should pack it and save it for later. Many people let food spoil rather than not use a food and let it spoil you could easily donate it to those who need it and would gladly accept.

  15. Food waste is becoming a huge problem in our school and in the United States. One way we can prevent food waste is to buy less food and if your still hungry go back and buy more. Don't buy more food then your going to eat. All you are doing is wasting food. Also another way you can help food waste is to get healthier lunches. For example to put more fruits in your lunch, maybe a smoothie will help or something kids like to drink or eat. All around if kids get more fruits in their lunches and eat what they take then it will solve our food waste problem.

  16. Food waste is a big problem around the world but we can help out right here at our school by only getting what your going to eat. Don't get lots of food because if your not hungry anymore, the rest of your food is trash. If everyone at our school did this we would be helping the environment and our school. Its small things like this that will go a long way if everyone helped. We could save lots of money and reduce the waste affecting climate change.
