WHAT CAN BE DONE TO SOLVE THE LION PROBLEM?

  1. Hunting is very popular in many countries, especially in Africa. Unfortunately for the hunters of Africa many of the best spots are nature reserves. If it were allowed for these hunters to hunt just the prey of lions for a certain period of time, then this may help with the lion issue. Obviously restrictions would be put into place so that lions do not starve, but with less prey they may reproduce more. If they do not make as much offspring when it is crowded and there is more prey than predators, then it is quite possible that with more predators than prey they reproduce more often.

At the moment, the number of lions in the wild are growing scarce. Researchers at McGill University are trying to figure out why that might be even though their prey is plentiful. Their findings show that a population of animals can choose not to reproduce when their prey is plentiful. Cause if there are more lions, then there are more mouths to feed which plummets their food source. So in order to solve the lion problem, the lion's food source has to plummet in order for the the lions to want to reproduce more.

The amount of lions in the wild is dwindling. Scientists are confused by this because there is abundance of prey so this shouldn't be happening. Researchers at McGill recently discovered that the abundance of prey may actually be causing the problem. The population is overcrowded so the prey species are reproducing less which causes less prey for the future. To solve the lion problem the prey population needs to decrease so the prey can reproduce at a steady amount and rate. If the prey population decreases, in turn the lion population will increase. Maybe the lions should be put in a more isolated environment that initially has less prey, or some of the prey should be cleared out of the environment the lions are already in.

  4. At the moment, the number of lions in the wild are growing scarce. Researchers at McGill University are trying to figure out why that might be even though their prey's population is much greater. This is because predators lime their reproduction to be lower then that of their prey's so that their food source doesn't go extinct. A way to fix this population issue with predators and more specifically with lions is to bread them in an enclosed environment and then release them in to their natural environment to help raise their population numbers.

The population of lions in the world is declining and many scientists are confused as to why. A few researchers from McGill decided to figure out why the lions were disappearing. When they observed the environments of the lions they were surprised to find that there were a surplus of prey for the lions to feast on. If the lions were dying but there was more than enough prey to eat there had to be an explanation and they had to find it. The scientists discovered that the overcrowded population of prey decreased the amount of reproduction which lessened the amount of prey for the future. In order to save the lions we could reduce the amount of prey in the environments where lions exist in order to force the prey to reproduce. If the prey become less crowded they have more room and will reproduce at a more steady rate causing the population of lions to stop decreasing.

  6. The reasoning as to why the Lions are struggling at the moment is incredibly eye opening. They're facing too much prey something we would never expect, since we believe more food the better. One thing scientists can try doing over a course of time is trying to move the lions prey to different parts of Africa where lions aren't really seen. Although it will take a long course moving it slowly it could possibly help in the long run by isolating a few at a time.

Scientist are confused why the population of lions is decreasing. Scientists at McGill have recently decided to look into why this is happening. They found out that due to overcrowding, the population of prey has been decreasing. The population of prey is decreasing due to lack of reproducing. Prey tend to reproduce more when their population is very low and less if their population is high and overcrowded. Less prey, means more reproduction, which then leads to more lions. Therefore, the lions should be put in an environment with less prey to then increase their population.

In the last couple of years the world has seen a large decline in the Lion population. Scientists from McGill University have determined that the population decline is due to the low rate rate at which Lions reproduce. The problem is that Lions have a large amount of prey to eat, and reproducing more would cause a drop in their food source. To solve this population issue I would cull the prey in the area enough so that the Lions prey aren't over populating the area, but not so much that it puts the Lions in danger of starving. This would force the prey to reproduce at a greater pace and thus increase the rate at which Lions reproduce.

In the past couple of years the population of lions has gone down. Now the McGill team are trying to figure out why this is happening and they thin the found the reason. They think that its is about the amount of their prey their is, because they found in their research that the more crowded areas the less prey reproduce so there is not a large supply of food for the lions. Now another reasoning for the lions that can be fixed is that hunter who like to hunt can only hunt the preys of lions in nature reserves so that also limits the lions food. But the main reason is because of the crowded places where the preys reproduce. So if the population of their prey reduce then that's one way to help save the lions.

  10. After years of research, scientists are discovering that the population of Lions are decreasing. This is due to overpopulated prey that does not reproduce a lot because of their big population. I think that hunters could be allowed hunt the Lions prey for population control. This will lead to those animals reproducing as said in the article because there will be less prey which leads to the prey reproducing. Also, when the prey seems to be dying off humans could step in and breed the prey so that there is more for the Lions to hunt. The decline in the Lion population is very surprising due to that fact in many cases there are an abundance of prey to hunt.

When scientists from McGill University made an observation on the predator to prey ratio, they were shocked by the result. What Hatton discovered in east and southern Africa was that the ratio of predator to prey was decreasing significantly, even though there was a surplus of prey. The lion population, being predators, was declining because of the overcrowding of prey, which results in less reproduction. The smaller the reproduction rate of the prey means the smaller the population of lions. The scientists also used many other ecosystems to test this theory, or "Nature's new law" and it came out the same. Overall, due to less offspring for prey, the abundance of predators drops as well.

McGill PhD Student Ian Hatton, was set on finding out why the lion population was slowly wearing out. He took note that it had nothing to do with human interference. The hunted was reproducing less because they knew there would be no point with skilled hunters such as lions. Eventually the amount of predators will overcome the prey and then there will be an imbalance in the food chain. Hatton noticed this trending pattern in many other predator prey relationships.

As the lion population decreases, scientist become more and more interested as to why this is happening. McGill scientist have set out to investigate why this is happening. They discovered that the lion's prey is plentiful, which is oddly this problem. Because the lions have so much prey, it causes them not to reproduce. This is because the lions do not want their food source to die out, so they try to reproduce less than what their prey does. In order to save the lions we need to reduce the amount of prey in the environments where lions exist to make the lions produce more.

  14. McGill University scientist have started to find out why the lions population is decreasing. Student Ian Hatton started to look at the proportion of predators to prey at many parks in East Africa and South Africa. The Prey was reproducing less then the predator which is decreasing the size of the prey. Since the Lions are at the top of the food chain they have lots of animals below them to feast off of so it cause them also to produce less. The reason they are producing less is because the want to have less then there prey. So now the reason there aren't more lions is because the are producing less to have less then their preys. Something that the lions can do is reduce the size of their prey because the less prey they have the more they can produce. Which will help the lions species to stay alive.

  16. Scientist have been researching for the unexplained reasons of the decrease of the lion population unhappy they go to parks in Africa to understand the deeper meaning. These scientist from Mcgill University first thought the predator prey ratio was just uneven but digging deeper they realized that If they do not make as much offspring when it is crowded and there is more prey than predators, then it is quite possible that with more predators than prey they reproduce more often. That is what I would do.

  17. McGill University PhD student, Ian Hatton was studying the lion population in Eastern and Southern Africa. He noticed that as the prey population decreased in crowded environments, and so, the lion population decreased. He believes this is the result of overcrowding. He feels that prey reproduce less in overcrowded areas. To help increase the lion population, more lions need to be brought into certain areas. Once there is more predation, then the prey will begin to produce more offspring.

  18. The population of lions are decreasing and McGill PhD student Ian Hatton has found out why. Studies over the past 50 years show that the population of the lions depends on there preys population. In order to increase the number of lions, lions need to decrease the number of prey they have or they can go somewhere else were theres not as many prey. Other than that, humans can't do much to help because if we get involved, we can do more harm than good.
